ROCK-SALT | Steen Zout

Cadzand, on the western tip of Zeeuws Vlaanderen, appears to be one of the weak spots on the Dutch coast. Under the influence of currents and wind, the beach and dunes at Cadzand-bad have become narrower and weaker over the years.

Dredging company Van Oord from Gorinchem is one of the bidders for the contract to reinforce the coastline at Cadzand and make it “superstorm-proof” for the next century. This is no easy task. The work required to widen and raise the beach and dunes is immense.

At the same time, it is spectacular work, a kind of ballet of excavators and trailing suction hopper dredgers spraying sand in a majestic arc onto the beach. In short, a spectacle that is well worth seeing.

ROCK | SALT facilitates mobile accommodation from which this spectacle can be experienced from different positions.
