THE PARK OF HOURS OF SAENDELFT | Het Getijdenpark van Saendelft

The urban development plan for Saendelft is characterised by elongated green axes between the building blocks, the “green carriers”. This means that the horizon is “present” throughout the neighbourhood. In a few places on these “green carriers” there are large oval-shaped spaces. The ovals are each slightly rotated in relation to the “green carrier”.

One of these ovals forms the project area for this art commission. The oval is oriented exactly north-south, detaching itself, as it were, from the orientation of the urban grid and pointing like a compass needle towards the Earth’s magnetic field. This anchors Saendelft and its residents in a larger, cosmic context.
