OPEN | Polder
An earthen embankment with niches and cut-outs forms a typographical image; a “word image” with an OPEN meaning.
As a landmark, the island will be visible and legible from the moraine east of Nijmegen.
Passers-by can settle in the niches and enjoy the sun and the view over the Ooijpolder and the moraine.
Management and maintenance are an integral part of the artwork.
Variable mowing management will ensure that the work always looks different, while at the same time enhancing its legibility.
