FUNNELING | Trechteren

Drecht, dracht, tricht”… are terms that refer to the Latin word “trajectum” in the sense of “continued”, a fordable place in a watercourse.

‘FUNNELING’ (TRECHTEREN) is both a verb and a strategy.
The funnels (Trechters) cause a behaviour, both in the water and in the walker, which condenses into a naturally meandering stream bed and path pattern.
Stainless steel barriers have been placed at a few strategic locations in the stream valley. The shape of the funnels as a “pinching construction” creates a narrowing in the stream’s flow profile.
The water is held back for a moment and builds up into a flow field. During drier periods, this will allow the area to store more water.
