FOSSIL RAIN | Fossiele Regen

“About the origin of the seepage water: The water that rises from the ground in the Ugchelse stream may be several thousand years old and come from great depths (approximately 150 m). In this context, it may be interesting to imagine the Veluwe landscape several thousand years ago, when a raindrop sank into the ground to travel the long way through the soil…”.

quote; Romeo Neuteboom Spijker, Vallei en Veluwe Water Board

As part of the “Art along Springs and Streams” project, around forty silver drops have been placed in the catchment area of the Ugchelse beek in Apeldoorn. The drops are sometimes in small groups, sometimes alone, close together or at some distance. They are located at the source, a fork, a watermill, a waterfall, a weir or a culvert. Each drop still bears the water circles of the “fossil rain shower” on its surface.

“We see the surrounding landscape reflected in the shiny surface of the drops, or do we remember the thousands of years old landscape where the rain once fell…?”
