COINCIDENCE | De Samenloop
When the Màximapark in Leidsche Rijn was laid out, an area of around 2.5 hectares remained undeveloped. All the surplus soil that was excavated during the digging of the Vikingrijn, among other things, was brought here.
The landscape architects at WEST8 envisaged a dense, enclosed forest area for this part of the park.
Using approximately 75,000 m3 of surplus soil, I designed a rolling landscape that was planted with very young trees in 2015. Ten years later, it already feels like a secluded and dense forest area.
In the centre of the area, a circular clearing nestles in a depression between the undulations. The Japanese path and the winding forest paths all converge in this tranquil spot in the forest, a place for gathering, play and theatre.
