AGGREGATES

A work of art as part of the biennial art cycling route “Van Hier tot Ginder” in the beautiful Overijssel countryside around Okkenbroek.

Only a few weeks (sometimes even a few days) a year, the Bosbaan near Okkenbroek is what it was intended to be: a natural ice rink.
For most of the year, it is a beautiful oval pond filled with (liquid) water.

The aggregate state of a substance is the state in which a substance exists, gaseous, liquid or solid.
When water freezes (solidifies), hexagonal crystals are formed.

In this work, entitled “Aggregates”, hexagonal structures float on the water of the Bosbaan.
Each structure is made up of modules, which in turn consist of three elements, three atoms, H2-O: the water molecule.
